Why Thrive?

As I was rummaging through my desk drawer looking for something I cam across a bottle of Avesil ( a weight loss formula with a list of ingredients I can’t even pronounce ) ….it’s nearly full. That is because after a month of using it I saw no changes and just felt like crap.

In another drawer I found a package of Sensa that someone had given me because it didn’t work for them…and guess what, it didn’t work for me either.

On my desk sits a bottle of OmegaPlex from Advocare…yet another reminder of a failed regimen. I still enjoy a few of the Advocare products, namely the O2 Gold before a workout, but that is all I use now.

I can also attest to Herbalife products that were in my cabinet that I just thew away a month ago as well as an unopened box of Shakeology somewhere in the house.

I have even gone so far as prescription weight loss pills (TERRIBLE!!!) and over the counter junk like Hydroxycut.

When I say that I have tried EVERYTHING, I seriously have tried EVERYTHING…even HCG!!

Now, there was 1 thing in common with EACH attempt at getting healthy with these products…about 8 or 10 pounds of weightloss and then a plateau. The other common denominator? Feeling like SHIT.


I was bloated, irritable and had consistent headaches when using all of these products. Even though the scale showed improvements my jeans were just as tight as they were before and the list of added symptoms were too long to keep me using them. I would spike and crash, spike and crash with the prescriptions and Hydroxycut type things and could barely keep myself functioning with the HCG.

I could go on and on about my experience with each product, but I don’t care to – just know that they didn’t work for me. They didn’t make me healthy from the inside out, fill in my nutritional gaps or help me make a lifestyle change…AT all.

They didn’t give me energy that lasts ALL day or help me get the best sleep I’ve had in years at night. They didn’t get rid of my aches and discomforts or help my mood. They didn’t naturally increase my metabolism or support fat loss while aiding in keeping lean muscle. They didn’t fill me full of probiotics to aid in proper digestions. They didn’t have 100% natural PLANT BASED ingredients with zero synthetics….they weren’t FEEDING my body with food fuel…they were just filling my poor body with chemicals and JUNK.

I could make a huge list of things that have improved for me since I have started using Thrive, but I’m just going to hit the most important things.

Small Town Bad Ass; A How To Blog.

You may think that being this awesome is easy, and well…you’d be right.

BUT – there are some significant steps you can take to ensure your bad ass status.

I would assume that being a bad ass in New York is much different than being one in rural Oklahoma, so please forgive me for not having multiple guidelines.

The first step to becoming a small town bad ass is to really establish your persona. You have to look in the mirror and get the face down. It should look something like this.


Make sure when you’re getting ready, ladies, that you don’t overdo the makeup…real badasses only accentuate their already bad ass features. (note…a little shimmer IS acceptable)


Now, first things first when dressing the part…pick out your favorite red dirt band tee…or whichever one happens to be clean.


Make sure you try your tee on with booty shorts so you can really feel good about yourself.

Now that you’ve got your classy face on and your band tee picked out, you should go ahead and throw on the jeans and boots…this is a requirement to accomplish the real small town bad ass look.

Some other things that may help get  your persona rocking are;


Trying to look fresh in a Cowboy Fresh hat…


…taking plenty of selfies…


…and practicing your Dana Linn Bailey impressions. Nothing gets me more pumped than Cowboy Fresh and DLB.

SO …there are some things you will need to really pull this off.

I already mentioned the jeans and boots…but you will also need to drive a big truck.


Drink your Activate


Haul your Thrive and water in bulk…


Listen to bad ass Casey Donahew songs AND have a dash dog named Dusty.


Did I mention the selfies?


You should also make sure your lunch grub is on point…



..and that you really work on your driving style..


I know this is a lot to take in, but I’m confident by just adding in a few of these things you will become even more bad ass than you already are.

Remember, these guides only apply to small rural towns where even when you don’t know what you’re doing…the town does.

Just A Dog.

As I sit here wiping away tears I come to realize something…sometimes we meet people that can change our lives, and other times…if we’re really, REALLY lucky…we meet a dog that can change our lives.


I have housed, fostered, raised and rescued numerous dogs but very few have ever had a hold on my soul and created a space in my heart. So few so that I can count them both on one hand. Two. There was Yeller, my labrador best friend from about 6 to 13, and then there was Karma, the one of a kind GSD.


I remember the ride home as soon as we got her. She was an anxious mess…but found comfort with her nose behind my ear. It was this off the wall instant connection between us. I had faith from that moment that she would be different…she was.



From the very beginning Karma was so in tune to everything I did and said. I promise you she understood what I was saying, and feeling. I taught her so many things, and she learned so quickly. She was smart, silly, energetic and full of love.

I taught her goofy tricks, and a solid work ethic. I taught her who was okay and who shouldn’t be trusted…she taught me that too. She learned when it was time to work, and when it was time to play. Together, every day, we grew and learned together..about each other, about life..about the world.

In all that I taught her, though…she taught me so much more. She taught me that sometimes change is unexpected and even though you think you can’t handle something…you certainly can. She taught me to be patient, and understanding…and to communicate without saying a word. She taught me that even though you think your heart is absolutely full…there is always room for more love. She taught me forgiveness…and she taught me to be free.


To always stay loyal.


To dare to be different and always let your weird shine through.


To enjoy every sunset.



To always show your love and affection.






To protect your family.



To attempt everything, even if it seems impossible.



To always smile.



So many people will never understand the impact an animal can have on your life. What they can teach you about life…and about yourself. Karma taught me to believe in myself because no batter what, she believed in me…she never doubted I would steer her wrong or place her in a situation that would cause us harm. She would protect me with her life and made me feel safe. She knew when I was upset…and could somehow always make me laugh. She was one of a kind and I will cherish every single day I had with her. I hope she enjoyed her time with me as much as I enjoyed my time with her.

She was never just a dog.

Sitting back and listening to others talk can really teach you a lot about yourself.

I know I have really changed over the past year, well…over the past 25, but you know.

When it comes to making changes you have to really WANT to do it.

You can’t just say “oh, I wanna lose weight” and it magically happen.

You can’t just think “I’d like to be healthier.” and wake up the next morning and be healthy, you have to WANT it and take the steps to make it happen.

Do doctors become doctors simply because they want to be doctors? NO – they work their asses off to learn how to save lives!

What I’m getting at here is if you want to make a change you’re going to have to do just that.

You can’t do things the way you always have and expect different results.

If you want to get healthier, stop eating processed foods and fast food. Do research on proper nutrition and start supplementing with a safe and natural option to fill in your nutritional gaps (like Thrive, for example). If you have a problem and visit the doctor – heed their advice even if it’s hard or uncomfortable for a while. Be smart and trust the process. You didn’t get unhealthy over night, you won’t get healthy overnight either.

If you want to “tone up” and get the sexy body you have been striving for then get off the damn treadmill and pick up something heavy.


Look for reliable sources, do some reading, hire a trainer or nutritionist and reach out to people who know what they’re doing. The more educated you are the easier it is to make smart choices and get healthy.
